Anna Balagtas

Hello!

My name is Anna (she/her) and I’m a queer Filipina full spectrum birthworker. My practice is rooted in radical care and reproductive justice. I support birthing folks and families in birth, postpartum, abortion, miscarriage, and loss. I believe in providing gender affirming and trauma informed care for all folks in their reproductive journeys.

I’ve trained with DONA in Toronto and am a certified doula with Cornerstone Doula Trainings based in California. Over the past five years, prior to becoming a doula, I cared for families with infants, toddlers, and families with multiples as a childcare provider.

My goal is to become the warmest blanket you cuddle under on a cold day – I want to make sure you’re comfortable and safe. I approach all aspects of my work holistically, through an evidence-based lens, and with the softest intentions.

I take care in understanding there is anti-racism work to be done in the world of birth and beyond and am committed to practice anti-racism measures in my work and unlearn internal prejudices and harmful biases. I will be your biggest advocate and make sure your voice is heard every step of the way. I’m your person. You’re important to me. I can’t wait to meet you.

Ocama Collective

Ocama means “listen” in Taino-Arawak, a language of the Indigenous peoples from the islands known today as the Caribbean and South America (Abya Yala). Inspired by this indigenous word, Ocama Collective views birthwork as unique as each pregnancy, birth plan, and birth care. We “listen” not only with our ears, but with heart and spirit, to each individual and baby that enters our circle of care. The Collective is open to ALL IBPOC families seeking a nurturing space to “listen” together.
