Land Acknowledgement

The Midwives’ Clinic is situated on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, Haudenosaunee, and the Huron-wendat. The territory was the subject of the Dish with One Spoon wampum Belt covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and Confederacy of the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes.

We acknowledge these groups as stewards of the land since time immemorial, and recognize their ongoing efforts to safeguard the land for future generations. We acknowledge our position as visitors on this land. In the spirit of reciprocity, we commit to honouring the traditions of the First People of this land, and strive to make our community a welcoming and culturally safe space for all Indigenous families who access our care. With our ears, we listen to the stories and truths of Indigenous people. With our eyes, we look to be allies within the community. With our voices, we speak our privilege into equity for others. With our actions, we strive for reconciliation.
