We ask that all clients, including those planning a home birth or a Toronto Birth Centre birth, to register at Michael Garron Hospital before 30 weeks of pregnancy. You will be given a pre-registration package of papers to complete from your midwife prior to 28 weeks. Once you have filled out the forms, you can take them to Michael Garron Hospital and pre-register.
To Pre-Register at Michael Garron Hospital:
Go to the Labour and Delivery reception desk on the 7th Floor, J Wing.
You can drop in between 8am and 8pm, 7 days a week, including holidays.
(Breaks are usually scheduled between 12-1pm, and 5-6pm, therefore it’s best to avoid those times)
Please remember to bring your Health card, Federal Health papers or South Riverdale CHC papers.
If you have any additional insurance through your employer or partner’s employer, you can bring that information as well.
At this time you will also be asked to purchase a “Mother and Baby Start-up Kit’ for $20. This kit contains some useful items such as a cord clamp remover and some personal and baby hygiene supplies. The funds from the purchase of these kits cover essential hospital services. If you are planning a home birth, you are not required to purchase a kit, however they can be purchased at a later date if necessary.
To Pre-Register at The Toronto Birth Centre (TBC):
If you want to give birth at the Toronto Birth Centre you and your midwife will fill out the Booking Form after 20 weeks of pregnancy. If you still plan to give birth at the Toronto Birth Centre at 36-37 weeks then you and your midwives will fill out a Booking Update Form. We encourage you to do a tour before you give birth. You can call 416-366-8080 to book a tour date at any time in your pregnancy.
